I will be amazed if I have not already mentioned here how partial I am to drums. Not so much drum solos (though I am quite fond of them) but bands who have several drummers or percussionists in their line-up. Imagine then, how chuffed I was seeing the Decemberists on Later last week with most of the band banging away.
I know it is gimmicky, but I can’t help liking it. Just like when KT Tunstall was on Later with her own drum kit. And was it Franz Ferdinand who augmented their line-up at Glastonbury with half a dozen drummers for one song? (Or was it Kaiser Chiefs? Very good anyway)
Perhaps its why I like African and Latin American bands – loads of drums.  Some of my favourite concerts have featured extra percussion: Santana, Angelique Kidjo, Manu Chao…
All of which is just a flimsy excuse to include a video clip of Shakira at the MTV Video Music Awards. I think this was a DVD extra on her Laundry Service album, but always worth another look.
I have started putting together a Spotify playlist of tracks with drum solos or very prominent and effective drumming. Any suggestions for tracks to add to it will be greatfully received.
I have a day off work today, it is pouring with rain, and I have no car available to me. What better way to idle way the day than indulging in some drum worship?
