Blame Zeus!

I expect to be posting here rather less often for the forseeable future, thanks to a bargain purchase of Master of Olympus and Master of Atlantis for about six quid altogether.  According to the package the games contain over 200 hours of gameplay which works out at about 3p for an hour’s entertainment.I played both games all the way through ages ago but earlier this year I fancied re-visiting them, at which point I found that the discs had been wrecked by spending too much time in the boys’ bedrooms.   Recently I noticed they were still available as part of the whole retro-games budget range and snapped them up.

That is when the fun really began – trying to install games that are nearly ten years old on an up-to-date PC.   Zeus is only a 16-bit game and for a while it looked like I wouldn’t be able to run it under Vista.  I eventually got it loaded by turning off UAC, and the good news is that it runs OK even with UAC turned back on – so it was only the install that was being blocked.

I’ve been too busy working through the tutorials and remembering all the tactics to even attempt loading it on the 64-bit Windows 7 computer.  I’m not entirely confident it will work there.
