Reggaeton

I found the entire short series of Latin Music USA on BBC Four to be greatly entertaining, but it also opened my ears to a few new sounds.  Last week I went straight onto Spotify after watching the programme to look for Fania All Stars, Willie Colon, Eddie Palmieri and similar: this week it was reggaeton. Maybe I am getting out of touch or something but this is an entire genre that was totally new to me.  I had already got confused in the past by the blurring of borders between hip hop and raggae, and now I’m trying to get my head round a reggae/rap/latin combination.  I have been streaming a couple of reggaeton compilations and even Jayne has commented that she likes what I am listening to, which doesn’t often happen.

At the moment it all sounds the same, but I think any type of music is like that if you are unfamiliar with it.  I’m sure that plenty of people think that all heavy metal sounds the same, all reggae sounds the same or even that all jazz, classical or rap sounds the same.  I doubt I will ever get to be knowledgeable about reggaeton, but I do like what I have heard of it.

I wonder what other entire scenes I am missing out on?
