Only a little over three months after moving house, I finally got round to wiring up my amplifier to the DVD player.  Been meaning to do it for ages, but so far I have put up with getting the sound from DVDs through the TV speakers and have not had the urge to listen to any of my SACDs.

What finally got me to pull my finger out was that I couldn’t wait any longer to watch the DVD of Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer in concert that I received at xmas and I just knew that a pair of TV speakers would not do justice to ‘the big four’.Actually that happened on Monday, but then I discovered that I couldn’t find any of the speaker cables, and ordered some flat white cable that Jayne might find more acceptable for the rear speakers.  I had been toying with the idea of wireless speakers but got paralysed by the choices beyond that – mains powered or battery powered for example – and shelved that bright idea for a while.

I think Jayne has got used to not having wires and speakers everywhere and was perfectly happy with me having an amplifier with no wires connected to the back of it at all, so there was a bit of a negative vibe when I shared my plans with her.

Today I wired it all up and brought down the thrash metal DVD to test it all out.  There was much tutting, rolling of eyes and pointed closing of the living room door, even though the volume was only at about a quarter of maximum, or even lower.

It rather defeats the purpose of thrash metal to watch it quietly, so I gave up, and the proper viewing has been postponed until tomorrow morning when Jayne goes off to visit her sister.  I have patiently waited about six weeks to see this so I figure I can wait a few hours more.
