Remember this little chap I saw in Broadfield Park?
I wonder if he is related to the feral terrapins of Hampstead Heath?
I haven’t heard any reports of turtles chasing and eating the ducks yet though.

Terrapins in Crawley have flourished since the 70s when it was the fashion to keep them as pets. Once people worked out they weren’t cute and could give a nasty bite, they were chucking them into Tilgate like by the bucket-load. And, of course, they bred.

I’ll see your terrapin and raise it my about a daozen. I was just at a local garden in Hornchucrh and the pond was swimming (pardon the pun) in red eared terrapins.

They (whoever “they” are) say that our climate is too cold for them to breed.
I’m not so sure though.

‘They’ must live in a colder bit of the UK. Stands to reason…..
