One of the few drawbacks to the new job is that it cuts down my opportunities to indulge in my new interest in photography. One reason for this is that I can no longer walk out of the door of my workplace and see County Hall and the London Eye right in front of me, […]

Only 50!
February 17th, 2007 · Comments Off on Only 50! · Life
I was reading Word magazine, and they had a list of famous people who turn 50 this year. With many of them the response is a mixture of surprise they are that old and a touch of sadness – a reminder that we are all growing older. So the list contained names like Ade Edmondson, […]

Spotted in Worthing today. Glad to see that when artists plan a World Tour it does not forget such places as Worthing, Gravesend and High Wycombe. Don’t knock it though – he has sold out in Glasgow, Wolverhampton and Market Harborough, but surely only for the novelty of it.

This just along the road from the 95p shop, which is just round the corner from the pound shop. Who says competition doesn’t drive down prices?
The Master

The first couple of episodes of Life on Mars have featured a couple of actors who were in the relaunched Doctor Who, but there is a much bigger connection I only found out about today. Apparently John Simm is rumoured to be appearing in the third series – as The Master! I would have thought […]

Having a drinks licence […]

Scary phrase
February 16th, 2007 · 3 Comments · Politics
I came across a phrase the other day that stopped me dead in my tracks – and I can’t even remember where I saw it, or what exactly it related to. It went something like this… “Just because nobody is saying the unspeakable, doesn’t mean they aren’t thinking it” Whatever it was about it made […]
The Icicle Thief

Mentioning this film the other day made me think about it, and now I have reminded myself how brilliant it is, so I am writing this just to get it out of my system. A bit of background first. In 1948 there was a film called Ladri di biciclette (Bicycle Thieves in the UK), made […]
Life On Mars

Not only did tonight’s Broadfield Forum meeting finish early enough for me to be home and settled in before the new series of Life On Mars started, but immediately afterwards they showed episode two on BBC 4. Episode one had Marc Warren playing a nasty piece of work. I spent the whole bloody hour trying […]
Mika

The other week I was listening to Radio One's Live Lounge during my couple of bonus days at home between jobs. The guest that day was someone called Mika, who I had never heard of but who seemed to be generating a lot of hysteria from listeners. It turns out that my having never heard […]
