Northgate byelection – five days to go

October 10th, 2009 · Comments Off on Northgate byelection – five days to go · Politics

I was back in Northgate again this morning.  There were so many of us that, after two of the older members took a load of leaflets to deliver to one area, the rest of us had to split into three groups for canvassing.   No doubt this will be spun as Labour getting desperate.  I think […]

Northgate byelection

October 8th, 2009 · 4 Comments · Politics

Next week there is a byelection in the Northgate ward of Crawley, following the resignation of a councillor.  It could be interesting.  The area used to be 100% Labour, but for the past 15(?) years it has had Lib Dem borough councillors and Labour county councillors, and earlier this year elected its first Tory to […]

Crawley village

August 30th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Life

There has long been a light-hearted debate about whether the Maidenbower neighbourhood in Crawley is a village or an estate ((its an estate)) but now the BBC seem to be saying that Crawley itself is a village according to this story.

The Hawth – better than the O2 Arena?

August 5th, 2009 · Comments Off on The Hawth – better than the O2 Arena? · Life

The Performing Rights Society (PRS) have issued a press release which ‘reveals’ the 100 best music venues in the country.  The list is topped by the Southbank Centre in London, and Crawley’s Hawth Theatre is at number 69, above such places as the Brixton Academy, the Roundhouse, the Carling Apollo, Manchester and the Cliffs Pavilion, […]

Crawley from above

June 29th, 2009 · Comments Off on Crawley from above · Life

Earlier today I saw a description of how to do fake tilt-shift photos, using aerial photography from multimap and a website called TiltShiftMaker, so I thought I would have a go. The results are not as good as using a proper tilt-shift lens.  They are not even as good as taking a decent high-res photo […]

Historic

April 30th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Life

In this week’s Crawley Observer there was a letter following up last week’s story about the proposed demolition of the old cinema in Brighton Road.  I had meant to make some comment on the story at the time and just never got round to it, but not because of the cinema.

Crawley’s godlike genius

February 28th, 2009 · 5 Comments · Music

Not that i was too bothered about it, or indeed bothered at all, but I missed the Brits because I was away on holiday, and the Oscars for more or less the same reason.  To make up for this lack of exposure to back-slapping awards shows I saw the NME Shockwave awards on TV tonight.   […]

Crawley Question Time:part two

January 24th, 2009 · 2 Comments · Life, Politics

This second installment is not about the issues discussed on the programme, but just what you might call the human interest angle, and some glimpses behind the scenes which may (or may not) put some aspects of the show in a different light. Be warned, this a long one: sorry for that. Which reminds me: […]

Crawley Question Time: part one

January 23rd, 2009 · Comments Off on Crawley Question Time: part one · Life, Politics

That’s ominous isn’t it?  “part one”…   It is not that I intend to go on and on at such great length that it requires two parts, though I can’t promise that I won’t, it is just that I want to separate comments on the content of the show and a description of the mechanics of […]

Question Time

January 22nd, 2009 · 9 Comments · Life, Politics

Despite a personal feeling that the programme has seen much better days, I am still quite chuffed to be going along to Crawley’s Hawth theatre to see Question Time get recorded tomorrow.
