There is no full line-up for this year’s Croydon World Party yet, but the headliners on July 12th have been announced as the Stereo MCs. On the following day there is a mela. Not so far to go for anyone who is going to miss the Crawley Mela this year.

Good news for some of us?

Every cloud has a silver lining. Those of us with a house on the market in the Home Counties will be the few beneficiaries of Mayor Johnson’s election, as those with any sense flee the capital while there is still a transport infrastructure for them to use for their escape. Time to put the asking […]
Compare and contrast

In 2005 Ken Livingstone spoke about the July bomb attacks in London. It was a mighty speech which ended like this: I know that you personally do not fear giving up your own life in order to take others – that is why you are so dangerous. But I know you fear that you may […]

I half-watched the London election programme on ITV tonight; the one with Boris Johnson, Ken Livingstone and Brian Paddick on.  I’m not sure whether the audience had been packed with partisan supporters of all three candidates or that there is just a lot of genuine public interest in the election, or a bit of both, […]

According to the Argus “A councillor has won a battle to secure better public transport links between West Sussex and the new Eurostar station in London.” Well done to him… except he hasn’t. We already had perfectly good ones and he has persuaded TfL to provide the option of a worse one for anyone foolish […]
Shibboleth

There have been seven previous installations in the Tate Modern’s Unilever exhibitions series, of which I have seen four and enjoyed them all to various extents. When I first heard about the new one (Shibboleth by Doris Salcedo) I had a real sense of anti-climax. The Turbine Hall is a brilliant, magnificent space and I […]
