Spotify getting social

April 27th, 2010 · Comments Off on Spotify getting social · Music, Technology

The new release of Spotify is looking seriously good – can’t wait for mine to update.  I have to agree with a lot of the comments on the article though – some features for sorting playlists would have been welcome, and a higher priority for most users.

Propellor Time, the new album from Robyn Hitchcock is now available on Spotify. Only just started listening to it myself so can’t give a verdict yet – just glad to see it up there.

Black Rock

March 31st, 2010 · Comments Off on Black Rock · Music

The excellent new album from Joe Bonamassa is now available on Spotify, which has kept my ears busy this evening.  It is hardly innovative, but I don’t think that is what anyone was looking for: just decent blues from somebody with a rare appreciation and respect for not only the US blues tradition but also […]

The wonders of Spotify

March 19th, 2010 · Comments Off on The wonders of Spotify · Music, Technology

Three pretty laid-back things I found on Spotify today. Exhibit one: Dil Da Rog Muka Ja Mahi by Gaudi and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Surely the most unlikely Kraftwerk cover this side of Senor Coconut. Exhibit two: Panic Grass & Fever Few by Ian King Is that really dub-tinged folk?  I think it must be. […]

Plastic Beach

March 8th, 2010 · Comments Off on Plastic Beach · Music

Just in case anybody didn’t know, the new album from Gorillaz, Plastic Beach, is on Spotify now.  I have only been half-listening to it while catching up on some reading, but it sounds pretty good to me.  Who else could get Lou Reed, Snoop Dogg, Mick Jones & Paul Simonon, Mark E. Smith and De […]

It’s folk Jim, but not as we know it

February 27th, 2010 · 1 Comment · Music

Reggaeton

February 21st, 2010 · Comments Off on Reggaeton · Music

I found the entire short series of Latin Music USA on BBC Four to be greatly entertaining, but it also opened my ears to a few new sounds.  Last week I went straight onto Spotify after watching the programme to look for Fania All Stars, Willie Colon, Eddie Palmieri and similar: this week it was […]

The Decemberists

February 13th, 2010 · Comments Off on The Decemberists · Music

I had heard of the Decemberists, of course I had.  I had even heard some of their stuff and seen them on TV, but I don’t think I ever really listened to them properly until tonight.  I am now starting to think I have been missing out a bit.

Suzi Quatro

February 6th, 2010 · Comments Off on Suzi Quatro · Music

Back to trivia even sooner than I expected…  while ferretting around in the odd corners of Spotify tonight I learned something interesting.  OK, maybe not interesting in the general definition, but I was interested.

Spongebob Squarepants

January 29th, 2010 · Comments Off on Spongebob Squarepants · Music

I have heard of Spongebob Squarepants but I don’t think I have ever seen it. Well, maybe a little bit while some young relative was watching it perhaps, but nothing I can remember. I have certainly not seen the film, but tonight I chanced upon the soundtrack album on Spotify. Brilliant stuff. Great tracks from […]
