Christmas, they say, comes but once a year. But when it does, it comes in autumn and lasts three or four months. Last week we went out for Sunday lunch and the pub we went to had a christmas tree in it already. Today, Jayne went off to Worthing to a warehouse shop that only […]

Out of the cup

On Wednesday night West Ham were knocked out of the Carling Cup by Chelsea. Today Crawley Town were knocked out of the FA Cup by Dagenham & Redbridge (again) and West Ham only drew after a late equaliser from Plymouth. The only silver lining was seeing Man United lose at Portsmouth.

More pain!

I used up almost my last annual leave day today, as I had a dentist appointment. It was a one-hour appointment at 11am but I didn’t get out until 1pm. This always seems to happen, I have to wait around a bit so the actual work starts late, and then it always takes longer than […]
Doom and gloom

We had a meeting of the general council of the community centre tonight. It just seems like everything is turning to shit at the moment: Payment from regular hirers is slow, with some owing a lot of what has been invoiced. One regular user group is moving out – a pre-school group (or after school. […]

John Peel

Today I heard the sad news that John Peel has died of a heart attack while in Peru. I grew up with John Peel. First hearing him in about 1976 when the older kids at school were playing him on the radio in the dormitory, by the time I was at college at the end […]
Sleep? Whats that?

I had an email from the chair of the Citizens Advice Bureau the other day. She was worried that at a recent meeting about how to celebrate its 50th anniversary I might have though she was impinging on my fundraising portfolio. I have to admit that I didn’t feel anyone was muscling in on my […]

A day out

Another day in Clerkenwell today. As usual, I went to Waterloo first, checked my mail, had some breakfast (well… I didn’t know if I would get a chance to have lunch) and then walked to Clerkenwell. And, as usual, although it was cold when I left home at 7, and still pretty nippy when I […]

If writing reviews for Amazon is too much like hard work, how about writing reviews for Four Word Film Review? The site contains thousands of film reviews which are only four words long, or fewer. So a review of Reservoir Dogs, for example, could be “coloured robbers die badly”, or a review of Fight Club […]

Amazon

Once you leave school it is really easy to get out of the habit of writing, unless you find yourself in a career as a writer. It is something which people just don’t have any need to do in normal day-to-day life. I’m not talking about writing up reports or analysis, but either creative or […]
