Manic Saturday

To paraphrase Van Morrison: whatever happened to Saturday and so slow?

It used to be that Saturdays would be a long stretch of idleness, starting with a student-scale lie-in, and with a long afternoon nap closley following. This is a reastion to a week of getting up at 6 for work. Today was rather eventful, so its lucky I had been on leave for Thursday and Friday.

At 10:30 Jayne and I went down to Laura’s house to do some canvassing and a bit of a membership drive for the party. When we turned up Laura’s dad told us she was in town doing her MP’s surgery so we must have got the time wrong.

At 12:30 we were in town ourselves, dragging the kids with us to the launch of the Crawley Interfaith Network, of which more later. That went on for a few hours, and we went home. The others had time for a bit of a break, but I had to go off to the dentists to sort out a dodgy crown.

Later I came back £118 lighter and with a temporary crown, and just had time to eat dinner before we all went out again to a fund-raising barn dance at the community centre, which none of us really wanted to go to.

Chrystal & Charlie enjoyed themselves, but in truth the event was a bit of a damp squib. A lot of people who promised they were going did not turn up. In the end, as usual, we failed to get away before the end and got lumbered with helping to pack away all the chairs and tables and clean up. As a result we did not get home until 11:30.

When we got home I was dead chuffed to find that BBC Four’s Glastonbury coverage was devoted to Baaba Maal, who played a fantastic set. I also got to see some of the Kaiser Chiefs, and even Coldplay were not as bad as I expected.
