Heavy weather

With all the kids away at various places today, Jayne and I went down to the Hawth to visit the International Mela. It got a good bit of publicity yesterday on the BBC South-East news, but it wasn’t the same vibe as last year. Partly this is because we went without any children, but a lot of it has to be down to the weather. Last year was very hot and sunny, we grabbed a curry from the GHU stall, with a coke, and sat out on the grass enjoying it. We couldn’t really stay long, as Jayne had worked all morning and had to work again this afternoon. JUst as we were leaving it started to rain really heavily. Maybe I will go back on my own tomorrow and take Charlie with me. Talking of the weather… yesterday I went out to the garden and saw that the grass needed a good cutting. The ground looked fairly dry so I decided to do it over the weekend. And then it pissed down. Today it looked like this:

We may have lost the use of our paving stones, but at least the cat has somewhere to drink from now. It looks like we had a lucky escape as the Broadfield fete was originally scheduled for today, but we postponed it so it would not clash with the Mela. We have not had really bad weather for our fete for years now, and maybe we will get away with it again this year.
