We are not afraid?

August 24th, 2005 · Posted by Skuds in Life · No Comments · Life

Clive Soley posted this piece which refers to a website called We’re Not Afraid. It is supposed to show defiance in the face of terrorist bombings of London, although Clive is using it as a general booster for those intimidated by modern life.

I had a look at the site when it first went up, only days after the July bombs and, while the intention is admirable, I think there is another site which does the same thing with a bit more humour – called I am fucking terrified. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone with an aversion to robust language though.

Somehow black humour seems to be more defiant. If the aim of terrorists is to terrify or terrorise us then it seems like laughing back in their face is a sure way to show they are not going to succeed, unless they are so lacking in irony that they would take the site’s name at face value.
