The things you see in the big city

I went to Clerkenwell today to pick up a laptop from our other office. On the way there I took the direct route from Waterloo and walked pretty quickly. On the way back I took a bit of a detour, took my time a bit more, and took some photos…

This was in Clerkenwell Green. I like the idea that there is an association for specialist cheese makers, but I could not help thinking about Monty Python’s Life of Brian… “I think he said blessed are the cheesemakers”

On Farringdon road I decided to go up Snow Hill instead of continuing in a straight line all the way to Blackfriars Bridge. I went past the central law courts and saw one of the world’s most useless bike lanes.

Not only is it only a few metres long, but there is a great big concrete block in the middle. Living in Crawley I am used to concrete blocks everywhere, but I don’t think this one is to prevent travellers moving in to set up home there. Even the BMX’ers would find it hard to get over this.

Round the corner is St. Paul’s, so I went past that and then down through the wonderfully-named Knightriders Court (disappointingly empty of talking cars) and crossed the Thames on the infamous wobbly bridge, where a group of workmen were installing wires.

Well… one was installing wire. The other two stayed safely on the bridge chatting to each other. I know the bridge is nothing like the tallest structure in London, but I still wouldn’t fancy doing this man’s job.
