What is the greater fire risk – wet clothes or dry clothes?
According to the people at Crawley’s new waste depot it is wet clothes. Amongst all the various recycling skips is one for clothing, and it has a sign that says you should make sure any clothing is dry as wet clothes generate heat when they dry out and can cause fires.
It is very counter-intuitive, but these people are experts and have access to all the health & safety literature so I guess we have to assume they are right and this is one of those things which are strange but true.
Now I am worried about it raining on the way into work in case I get wet and then spontaneously combust during the morning as my clothes dry out…
