Bongo Bong

Jayne started a new job today so I bought her a little present, although I did have an ulterior motive.  She is really into Robbie Williams so I got her his new CD.  I am not really into Robbie Williams, but there is a track on it I really wanted to hear after hearing that it exists.

The track is Bongo Bong/Je net'aime plus – a cover version of the Manu Chao song (which is itself an adaptation of a Mano Negra song) done as a duet with Lilly Allen.  Now I have heard it I don't really know what to make of it. On the one had it is car crash entertainment, but it is a song it may well be impossible to spoil and I'm sure Manu Chao is getting some useful royalties out of it just like Angelique Kidjo and Rachid Taha did when Santana covered their songs on his recent albums.

One thing is for sure, it is the best cover song Robbie has done since he did Antmusic for that film soundtrack.

What’s the version of Louise like?

I can cope with that. If he’d have gone near anything off Dare, though…

The version of Louise sounds like it has been done on a bontempi organ. Probably quite pleasant to anyone who hasn’t heard the original.

I quite the dirty synth sound at the start, and the primitive sounding chords but it goes downhill about halfway through.
