Yet more Yes

March 28th, 2007 · Posted by Skuds in Music · 2 Comments · Music

Given that Yes was the first band I ever saw live, and that I have 16 CDs (4 of them doubles, several vinyl LPs not yet replaced by CD) and now 10 videos and DVDs it is a little surprising that I did not only not have their most famous/notorious LP (Tales from Topographic Oceans) but had never even heard it.

The album had a reputation for being a bit difficult, and only had one mega-track per side of the double album, and that put me off a bit. I think it was a bit of a ‘marmite album’ which everyone either loved or hated.

So I was in the position of having such recent obscurities as Talk, Open Your Eyes and Union, and even the Alan White solo project but not one of their most iconic albums and finally I decided to put aside my blind prejudice and actually bought TFTO.

It turns out that I really like it, and I think I would have liked it even more had I heard it 30 years ago when I was still playing new purchases to death – as you do when you can’t afford many of them. As I result I have now resolved to fill that other glaring gap in the collection: Relayer.

As you know Skuds I also am a huge Yes fan. I can’t believe that you have not owned or heard TFTO. I must admit I did not buy it until 20 years ago. I love it to…..great on the Ipod…if you just want to drift.

Get Relayer. No Rick on it but is still good.

I guess that Going For The One will still be my Fav. as it was that tour I saw them for the first time.

Going for the One was the first album I bought, after hearing a few tracks on the John Peel show – hard to believe he used to happily play Yes album tracks.
