The other day I found something which is brilliant news for anyone in the unlikely position of really liking the X-Files but not owning any of them on DVD – a box set of all nine seasons, plus the feature film, for £71.97 on Amazon.

That works out at eight quid per season with the film thrown in free!  Or it is £1.18 for each of the 61 discs.  I have never really watched the programme and have no desire to, but it still seems like good value.  Jayne has season one and wanted to get the rest.  At current prices that would end up costing about £144 by the time she reached the end, so for her it would be a real bargain, and still worth getting.  Not sure how I would feel if I had bought 3 or 4 seasons… it would still be cheaper to buy the set, but feel like a waste to be acquiring so much for the second time.

The really odd thing is that Amazon also sell another box set.  It also has all nine seasons of the X-Files but it has a different box, does not include the feature film, and it costs £132.97.   I wonder how many people decide to pay £61 more to get a slightly less complete set?  It makes it a very expensive box!

Some of these box sets are getting very cheap if you are prepared to  wait a little bit and not be all impatient to get everything as soon as it is released.  For example, there is a set of all seven seasons of the West Wing for £90.   That would be great for someone like me who ought to like the show but doesn’t own any of it – except that I have never even seen it and can’t see where I would find a spare 112 hours to watch it all.
