A Different Point Of View

The other day, as I watched the end of David Gilmour’s concert in Gdansk, I was ridiculously amused by Gilmour’s comments to the crowd at the end.

I don’t know if it is the difference between US and British (specifically English) bands, or between metal and prog, or between artists with a very middle-class upbringing like Gilmour and a troubled blue-collar life like James Hetfield, or a combination of all three, but I really could not stop myself remembering the start of the Metallica concert DVD (Cunning Stunts) and comparing it to the end of the Gimour one.

Metallica’s conversation with the audience goes something like this: (From memory so the words may not be 100% accurate, but the tone is)

Fuck Yeah! Are you ready to fucking rock? I can’t fucking hear you? It’s okay to make noise!

Gilmour, on the other hand, signs off with his very best Sergeant Wilson impersonation:

Good night. Thank you very much indeed for coming. It’s been terrific.

I think it was the “indeed” that really tickled me.
