Not obsessed at all

February 2nd, 2009 · Posted by Skuds in Life · 1 Comment · Life

We Brits are sometimes accused or even stereotyped as being obsessed with the weather.  Is that fair?  Here are the last 15 items in the West Sussex County Times/Horsham Today RSS feed as of now:

  • Snow set to continue (3 hrs ago)
  • Snow scenes in villages – photos (3 hrs ago)
  • County council gears up for snow day 2: audio (3 hrs ago)
  • Horsham snow – video (3 hrs ago)
  • Send in your snow pictures: slideshow (6 hrs ago)
  • Roads closed after snowfall (6 hrs ago)
  • Snow: schools closed and open – latest (6 hrs ago)
  • SNOW: your pictures – updated (9 hrs ago)
  • Snow latest: Washington roundabout a ‘standstill’ (9 hrs ago)
  • Schools/colleges shut due to weather – latest (10 hrs ago)
  • Commuter chaos as snow falls (10 hrs ago)
  • Heavy snow causes commuter chaos(11 hrs ago)
  • Record snow: send us your pictures (11 hrs ago)
  • Record snowfall forecast tonight (23 hrs ago)
  • Snow set to create problems for commuters (23 hrs ago)

So… not obsessed at all.

A few idle thoughts:  did nothing else happen today?  Was today a good day to bury bad news (under a couple of inches of snow)?   If this weather continues for a week, will they still be writing about nothing else on day seven?

Not that I am bitter that I had to go to work while Jayne and Chrystal stayed at home because their schools were closed. Oh no.

Not sure about tomorrow though.  Our road is getting pretty scary now.  Its a bit steep.  So steep that the gritters got a few feet along it then gave up.  Could have done with those salt/grit containers we asked for five years ago but were told we couldn’t have.
