I am going to have to move Chicago further up my list of places to go to – if only for the chance to stand on the ledge.

You could try the Spinnaker tower in Portsmouth – which could be a day trip for you. That has a glass floor 100m up – Rob loved it and I wouldn’t go within 10 feet of it! If I recall how much you loved the view from the tower of Durham Cathedral I’m not sure you’d like it much either….

I seem to recall I got nearer the edge than you did!
I’ll admit that heights scare me – but I like being scared – hence my visits to the top of the Eiffel Tower, Empire State Building, Sydney Harbour Bridge, London Eye and.. Durham Cathedral.
Its a bit like going on roller-coasters.
Last time we were in Pompey (not counting passing through on the way to the IoW) the Spinnaker wasn’t quite finished, but I have seen photos taken by friends who went, and it looks pretty neat.
If I go I will have to go alone though. J refused point blank to go up there.

I’ve looked over the edge of Gaping Ghyll before now, which is looking down a 300 foot drop into a chamber big enough to hold York Minster… but I had to crawl to the edge! No way was I going to stand up.
