I found this article on the BBC website to be in equal measures interesting and depressing. It is called Why do people vote against their best interests? and is about the US healthcare issue, but really has lessons for the left over here too.

LA Rain

I can’t say I was surprised by this story. When I went to Los Angeles it rained for a couple of days. There were roads closed, and on one journey we were on a freeway and where it dipped under a junction there was a good 40cm of water to get through. I guess the […]

I am going to have to move Chicago further up my list of places to go to – if only for the chance to stand on the ledge.

Earlier in the month I was rambling about the US political system and its differences to ours. I forgot a couple: one good and one bad.
Paint It Black

I figure that enough time has passed since the US elections to be able to reflect on it a little more objectively, rather than in the over-cooked excitement of the immediate aftermath – and perhaps that is something Trevor Phillips should have done.

I can live […]
Black President

I was going to download Fela Kuti’s The Black President tonight in anticipation of Obama’s success (or to cheer me up otherwise) but my favourite download site doesn’t have it…Â I could probably take the time to find all the individual tracks off other, non-compilation, albums but I am in a bit of a rush. […]
Hard Headed Woman

I’m not too keen on this Sarah Palin woman, and for so many reasons. Her pregnant daughter, however, is not one of them. As far as I am concerned that should have no relevence to the election or be any reflection on Palin. Even her habit of choosing names for her children that Frank Zappa […]
