Nearly there!

The living room is now just about finished. Today we got some blinds and fitted them, got rid of Jayne’s old, huge, desk (swapped it with her mum for a smaller one), set up the TV/Satellite/DVD/video, and packed up most of the tools.

I also set up Jayne’s computer and fitted a wireless card in it. I really can’t express just how impressed I was, and still am, with how easy it all was to set up. I just ran the install CD, fitted the card and rebooted. After I put in the 128-bit encryption key it all connected wirelessly.

I was expecting to have to set up IP addresses for a DNS server and all the other stuff to share the broadband connection, but then noticed that everything was already connected to the internet! Full marks to Belkin for their router, wireless card and install software. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone. I have been using computers for about 20 years and networks for a bit less than that, and I have never seen a network set up so easily.

The hallway is now painted and the kitchen is prepared for painting and has new light fittings – Jayne and the kids will finish that off tomorrow while I am at work. All that remains then is for me to get my hi-fi out of the cupboard and set it up. Oh yes… I need to lay new flooring in the hall, downstairs toilet and cupboard under the stairs, but I am trying to put that off until the weekend.

In the absence of a working sound system today I actually listened to Radio 1 on the PC. I have obviously known for quite a while that it is possible to listen to live radio on the internet but I never bothered before, and I was quite impressed with that too.

All in all it has been a good day for being impressed.
