Today was the closing date for the Shift Manager job I applied for. Its one grade lower than my current job, but maybe more interesting and should pay more because of shift allowances. Three other people, who all used to work for me, have applied. I don’t know what my chances are. Quite apart from personal attributes, there is the fact that all the others are internal to that department, so if they promoted one there would still be a gap – maybe thats good or maybe its bad. Two of the others are earmarked to move out onto the new technology helpdesk when it goes live and that could be good or bad. Also, there is another job the company want me to do, but there would be no extra money or anything for me. Finally there is the fact that it would cost the company a lot less to promote one of the other people instead of moving me into that job. Be interesting to see what happens.

Not that anyone reads all this stuff at the bottom anyway, not when there is more exciting stuff to do like watching paint dry...
