Local Tories

April 23rd, 2005 · Posted by Skuds in Politics · No Comments · Politics

I forgot to mention that I had the Tories knocking on my door this afternoon. Obviously the ‘vote Labour’ poster in the bedroom window is not large or prominent enough. I shall have to dig out the large placard from whichever cupboard it is in.

The bloke who actually rang the bell was Richard Quirk, son of the Broadfield South councillor, Alan, who is always in the local paper but never seen up Tollgate Hill.

I know that, as a Labour party member it is my duty to engage the Tories in conversation and keep them on my doorstep for as long as possible, but I really didn’t feel like it today. The football was just starting on Sky Sports for a start.

What I can’t believe is that, even after he realised who I was, he still thought I would be pleased to hear that Henry Smith was just up the road and would be along soon.

His timing was not perfect though. About an hour earlier Jayne and I filled in our postal votes for the County elections so we couldn’t have been influenced on them anyway. Actually, since the local postal vote forms are dropping through letterboxes now, this is a good time to be out canvassing. I shall make sure I get to the session tomorrow morning, even though it means giving up my lie-in.
