I only heard about it today, but another one of the managers at work handed his notice in on Friday last week. Its a good job we have so many of them.
The way it works is like something out of Dilbert. If a department is struggling because of staff shortages – like the helpdesk always being undermanned – the solution is nearly always to reorganise and add another tier of management above that department to give them more supervision. It never seems to occur to Napoleon that an extra grunt is cheaper than another manager and will help more.
But, of course, our senior managers’ mates are all managers so creating more lower-level jobs will not help them find jobs for the old boys’ network. We will only get more workers, when the railway mafia have kids who need a job.
