There is something not quite right about when Dennis Skinner was banned from the Commons for a day last week.
Not the allegations he made – maybe Osborne took cocaine and maybe he didn’t, it doesn’t really bother me – and not the way Skinner shouted it all out: its what he is famous for. What is not right is that he seemed to be saying that something must be true because it was in the News of the World!
I do hope he was joking.
I like Dennis though. He came to Crawley last year to speak at a dinner the party arranged to celebrate Bert Crane’s 50 years as a councillor. As Bert is die-hard Old Labour we could not have had a better choice of speaker. He talked for 30 or 45 minutes without notes, was amusing and actually said very nice things about Tony Blair. Possibly for the shock value.
