Phew. I managed to not get selected to stand for a ward where I didn’t really want to stand, so everything is OK there.
I’m not 100% sure I want to stand in a winnable seat in case I win: I quite like having free time now. On the other hand there must be some sort of obligation for anyone who could make a half-decent job of being a councillor (*) to do it if they are asked so I am taking a position of accepting invitiations but not fishing for them.
I suppose I will have to get used to the idea of representing somewhere other than Broadfield South, where I live, if I ever really want to return to the council because the Mrs will stand here and I am not going to compete with her for that. I also wouldn’t want to have the other seat. Husband and wife teams representing the same ward is just so naff.
(*) Not false modesty. I think I didn’t do too bad, but with hindsight I can see how I could have done a lot of things a lot better. I reckon if I get back I could do a three-quarters-decent job.
