There was a spectacular accident in Broadfield this afternoon. One of those ones where you can see the results but cannot see how it could happen. I don’t think anyone was seriously hurt, but they would have been shaken up.
It was on the Brighton road, opposite the Squires garden centre, and a car had managed to come off the road, cross the grass verge, footpath and cycle path, go through the bushes/hedge and into the stream. The back end of the car is just visible from the road and the car must be pointing downwards at an angle of 45 degrees.
I can’t imagine how anyone could do it. I don’t think I could get a car in there if I tried to. It is only a few metres from the roundabout – how fast can you manage to get on the Cheals roundabout? And the car was dead perpendicular to the road – it had not just swerved a bit but had turned completely to the left at a time when centrifugal force is probably still pulling to the right.
Quite an achievement really.
