Tonight’s Arsenal v. Real Madrid game is a timely answer to the French TV people I mentioned the other day and a perfect reminder of how a 0-0 draw can be anything but boring.
The last 10 or 15 minutes were frantic, exciting, end-to-end football with real suspense and passion from both sides right up to the final whistle. Imagine if Arsenal had scored twice in the opening 10 minutes: the suspense about the rest of the game would have been totally lost.
For a start the Madrid keeper would not have come up for that late corner, leaving his goal wide open for Arsenal’s speculative long shot and the race between ball and defender. Brilliant game.
