Just like hearing the first cuckoo of the year, or spotting the first buds on the trees in spring, or the first sighting of Easter eggs in the shops, there is another seasonal omen to look for.
Tonight I saw the first car with a St. George flag on the roof. Is he celebrating the cricket against India or the swimming victories in the Commonwealth Games, or is he just getting in early for the World Cup?
I suspect it is someone beating the rush for Germany 2006.
