Anti-Nazi League

I had an e-mail today about the launch of a new book called When We Touched the Sky by Dave Renton, a history of the Anti-Nazi League from 1977-1981.

I like any books about that time, covering the years between my 15th and 19th birthdays I obviously have lots of fond memories, but especially of the ANL. I was never a member, but I supported the idea, along with the Rock Against Racism which was running alongside it. In fact I still wear a couple of ANL badges. One coat has the classid yellow/red badge and another has a dark blue one with the arrow and the slogan “Transport workers against the Nazis”.

The publicity blurb reads:

By the end of the 1970s, the National Front seemed poised to become Britain’s third party. But the NF had enemies on the terraces, in the clubs, and everywhere the young fought back. This is the history of that struggle.

When we touched the sky is published in May 2006 by New Clarion Press.
