What has happened to Cheals roundabout?
All those lovely bushes have gone and all that is left is a couple of trees and the Cheals display shrubs. It looks so bare now. All I can think is that it was either a financial decision, which would be unfortunate, or for safety reasons, which would be stupid.
I’m not saying that safety is stupid, just that removing all that greenery might well, in my opinion, make Cheals roundabout more dangerous. Previously it looked dangerous, so a lot of cars slowed down. Now it looks safer so I expect an increase in speed and accidents. If that sounds wrong, read up on risk compensation.[*]
I do hope there was a good reason for making this roundabout, which I use nearly every day, both more dangerous and less attractive.
[*]and think about the most serious recent accidents outside K2 and on the Ifield roundabout – both junctions with good visibility.
