Something else I learned today is exactly what the establishment called Pleasuredrome is.
It is tucked away under an arch beneath Waterloo East station and is just a glass door with no clue as to what it is, beyond having a slightly suggestive name. At work we thought it might be an obscure and tiny nightclub or something, but today I got curious when I walked past it and decided to look it up on the Internet.
It turns out to be a cross between a gay sauna and a Tardis. I say that because behind the tiny little door is a complex of saunas, spas, a cafe/bar, and all sorts of other facilities including, according to the website, 400 lockers. 400? The place must be huge.
I am now kicking myself. A few months ago I was on the way home and someone stopped me and asked directions to “the gay sauna”. As I didn’t know about this place I directed him to Chariots in Lower Marsh instead.
On reflection, the use of the word ‘curious’ in paragraph 2 might be ill-advised…
