Modern Life

I went into the town centre this afternoon.  A flying visit to pick up a couple of last-minute items.  As I got there I realised that I had forgotten to check the score of the West Ham game, which was the early game today.

I can remember many years ago being dragged out shopping and hanging around Dixons to watch their TVs during Grandstand's final score, and had thought about looking for a shop which had Sky Sports but then I discovered a much better solution.

In the Vodafone shop they had a demonstration model of an Internet phone, just sitting on a pedestal. Well.. not so much just sitting there as bolted down securely.  With a few button presses I was able to get the score and full match report from the BBC site.

Internet access on mobiles has certainly come along since I played with an early GPRS phone. That experience put me off the whole idea, but these new ones look really good.  I think I shall still sick with my steam-driven, camera-less Nokia though: I suspect that web-surfing can work out to be expensive with 3G.

Before I left the store I called up Wongablog on the phone for the amusement of future shoppers…

I love it 🙂 I like to imagine Mr Christmassy Monkey happily staring out at confused shoppers 🙂

I spent the day of the FA Cup final at a first birthday barbeque and periodically getting Rob to check the scores on his phone. I think this may have been the source of the next day’s crippling hangover – if I hadn’t known how the match was going I wouldn’t have needed to steady my nerves…. I’m not sure this is the kind of progress I need.
