First day

February 5th, 2007 · Posted by Skuds in Work · 4 Comments · Work

It was the first day at school the new job today. At last.

Over the weekend I was looking forward to it with a mixture of anxiety and eager anticipation.  It is a bit scary going into a place where you know nobody and know nothing about how everything works, where you don't even know the where the toilets are, but fortunately I have a healthy sense of adventure coupled with a slight self-destructive streak which means I quite enjoy putting myself in situations where I am out of my depth.

I do know that it was great to leave the house and get to work 15 minutes later.

As for the job itself, this is the last time I will be mentioning it here: they are very strict on security and on not broadcasting anything which might reflect badly on the company.  I am just happy to finally have some real work to do, even if I didn't get to do any of it today – they are taking the sensible approach of doing the induction properly and letting new employees ramp up slowly.

Best of all is that Jayne started working just round the corner today so we could travel together and car-share.  We have to do a bit of haggling to try and get our hours to coincide, but it looks like working out OK.  If I end up working later than her on a regular basis I might start cycling: I have already seen that they have a decent bike storage place and showers.

Hope the new job goes ok Skuds. . It’s not a poltically restricted job is it by any chance?

    You wish! 🙂

I have been given quite long lists of all the things I am not allowed to do and I didn’t see anything on there about limiting political activities

I expect to see you a shadow of your former self very soon….

    I wish!

I had a videoconference the other day and squirmed when I saw myself on the screen. I looked huge.

They do say that the camera adds pounds to you, but I suspect the chocolate and buns have a lot more to do with it.
