Tata TSSA, ‘Allo Amicus

It took me a little while to get around to it, but I finally joined up with the trade union at my new workplace. it would probably be a bit cheeky of me to go cap-in-hand asking for a contribution to this year’s election expenses while the ink is still wet on my new membership card, but I will be looking into persuading the local branch to affiliate with Crawley Labour Party later in the year.

Having looked into ways of saving money, this is one expense which is well worth paying. The benefits to me personally and (hopefully) to the local party far exceed the tenner a month it will cost me.

    Which branch are you in?

I’m not sure. I have only had letters from head office saying welcome, then telling me what my membership number is.

The card itself has either not arrived yet or has been misfiled by the kids. I assume it will be whatever branch covers Manor Royal.

Ah, well, see, it depends on which pre-Amicus Union you would be in, and then which section of it.

I was in Gatwick & Brighton MSF, I think. The old man was in Crawley AEU. While the branches talk to each other (as in, my dad talks to Paul Smith once in a while), I don’t know if they are really co-operating or if other ones are around…

I’m a bit busy at the moment, but I will look into it a bit more after May 3rd.

As my company is an amalgamation of lots of old smaller ones there are probably ex-MSF and ex-AEU members.
