Michael Tolliver Lives!

June 12th, 2007 · Posted by Skuds in Life · 1 Comment · Life

After a gap of some 18 years, Armistead Maupin has finally written another instalment of Tales of the City, called Michael Tolliver Lives, which is great news but is likely to cause a reading crisis here. It is so long since I read any of those books I am out of touch with the characters so I think I may want to read the other 6 again first.

The slight problem there is that I already have 4 novels waiting to be started, not counting the last 4 or 5 Dean Koontz books which Jayne has and I have never got round to, and there is a new Robert Rankin out soon as well. As if that was not bad enough I found out today that there is a new Christopher Brookmyre on the horizon too, which seems to feature the death and afterlife of Jack Parlabane – but there is bound to be a twist somewhere. It is called Attack of the Unsinkable Rubber Ducks, which sounds more like a Robert Rankin book title.

I am starting to think I should give in to Jayne’s demands to go camping again so I can catch up with everything, and I am going to make a conscious decision to put that bloody Thomas Pynchon book away and never pick it up again. I hate starting a book and not completing it, but sometimes it really does not seem worth the effort.

My thoughts exactly on the Maupin front – I too think I’ll need to go back and read the earlier ones. But that may be after the new Brookmyre, Pelecanos, Ian Rankin and Lee Child books that I have lined up. Not to mention a couple of books I got out the library last week. Just don’t think the gardening is going to get done for some time.
