The Amicus people were visiting work today and set up a stall in the canteen. After lunch I thought I would go over and say hello on my way out and introduce myself as a new-ish member.
I came away with a very useful satchel (handy for when my current man-bag wears out), a health & safety book, desk calculator and a couple of little promotional goodies ad also took the opportunity to nag the regional organiser-type chap for not coming to the local branch meeting.
I thought I did quite well on the freebie-front until my colleague came back from lunch. I have been talking to him for a while about the benefits of joining the union and today he signed up with them on the spot and not only got a man-bag but also a USB memory stick and a baseball cap.
He wasn't willing to swap the USB stick for the calculator… bah!

Are they having a clear out of Amicus stuff before they need to give out the new Unite ones then? Maybe you’ll get a USB stick in the swanky new logo & be able to make your new member colleague jealous! Well done on the recruitment – 2 million and 1 members now 😉

That thought did cross my mind, but having looked at the timescales for full convergence I can’t see them needing piles of Unite knick-knacks in the near future.
