The word "ironic" is overused as often as it is misused, so it was refreshing to see someone today give a perfect demonstration of when the word should be used correctly.
I went up to London to meet up with some ex-colleagues to celebrate one of them turning 40. The birthday boy turned up fashionably late and the reason was that this person who has worked for London Transport for at least the last ten years got on the wrong tube train.
It was a good evening though. You often hear it said at leaving do's that someone is glad to move on but they will miss their work colleagues, and in the case of London Underground that is very true. The old gang from LU have dispersed to Infracos, TfL and outside the organisation completely but there is still a very strong team spirit, and much mutual respect and affection there. Its a shame that spirit was never exploited in the good sense of the word by the company.
