A good week to bury good news

December 7th, 2007 · Posted by Skuds in Politics · 1 Comment · Politics

A casual consumer of news, the majority of the population who just hear a few headlines on the radio, would think that the business of donations to the Labour party was the most significant thing going on at the moment. They might even think that and the re-appearing canoeist are the only two things going on.

I don’t want to belittle the significance of the the funding issue. It might only be a case of someone who is perfectly eligible to make donations, making donations via other people who are also eligible but it still makes plenty of us in the party very annoyed. We may suspect that much worse goes on in certain other parties, on a larger scale, but it doesn’t make us any happier.

But what is just as annoying is that this story has got totally obscured. In the great scheme of things, isn’t it a bit more significant that the US’s own intelligence services have decided that Iran ceased its nuclear weapons programme 4 years ago? I’m sure that Bush’s claims that Iran was on the verge of starting World War 3 last month were more prominently reported.

Anything to reduce the chances of another disastrous military ‘intervention’ in the Middle East must be good news and its a shame that it probably didn’t get noticed by the casual consumer of news.

It is very significant – which is exactly why ‘they’ plant this McCann/Darwin/Donation nonsense on the main news media – pure distraction.

BBC Breakfast News ran a story on ‘string vests’ for most of the early morning.

Consign most TV, Radio and Newspapers to the dustbin. The Internet now is the only medium worth looking for any real news.
