For some reason WordPress was stuffing the CPU on the server. Again.
So… I have upgraded to the latest release of WordPress, upgraded all the plugins (but disabled them for now, except for Akismet), and reverted to the default template. I’ll see how this goes and then start re-introducing plugins.
I might bring the old template back, or I might try a new one and start customizing it. I was getting irked by the old one anyway – the main column was slightly narrower than an embedded YouTube clip.
Loving the new WordPress so far though. In the plugins section it notifies you if any of them are out-of-date and points you at the latest version. Lots of mine were out-of-date.
There is also an option for tags, which looks worth exploring. I reckon I can replace most of the categories with tags which might be a way to pass the xmas holidays.
Normal service will be resumed when I can find the time. But if anyone notices anything strange or wrong either leave a comment here or email me.
