Green, green grass of home

It was almost inevitable really.  Months of slogging around in the cold and rain, trying to force soggy leaflets through resistant letter boxes and then as soon as the elections are over its all sunny and warm.  I was over in Horsham delivering some leaflets about affordable housing today and it was so much more pleasant to be able to go out in shorts.

The other benefit of not being electioneering all the time is having the chance to get the grass cut at home for the first time in 2008.   It was a happy coincidence that the first time it stayed dry long enough for the grass to be mowable found me with enough time to do it.  The back is still a bit boggy, but now its shorter it might dry out more.  The front garden is at a 45-degree angle so not a place you want to be man-handling a mower if its a bit slippy underfoot – I have found myself ending up on my arse there too many times already.

All this good weather (and on a bank holiday weekend too) also took us over to Horsham to buy a new tent, followed by a spot of lunch.  I had a sudden craving for pizza.  Every day for the last week we have been getting stuff through the letter box from different pizza delivery firms and the cumulative effect of seeing all those photos of pizza finally made me crack.  So we went to an Italian restaurant only to find they had run out of pizza dough.

Apparently it was the first day they have been making them and demand was such that they used up all their dough.  The bruschetta al pomodoro followed by chicken with a spinach, garlic and bacon sauce was excellent though, and the manager bought us a drink to make up for going pizza-less, so I’ll give the place another go one day.

The only thing is that I feel a bit guilty about being so content after we got such a kicking in the elections.  I can only assume that is because its such a relief to get your normal life back again that the actual result is secondary.
