Yellow Peril

Back moaning about Setanta again.  Before watching the Man City/Chelsea game I had left the TV tuned to Setanta for their equivalent to Sky’s ‘Soccer Saturday’ programme.  I don’t think I will be doing that again.

I am no fan of Murdoch as anyone can imagine, but Sky’s results show is hard to beat.  Setanta’s is a pale imitation. Or should that be a pale yellow imitation?  Everything about it is inferior, right down to the little details.  The layout is the same: scrolling teletype of latest scores at the bottom, tickertape of news above that, left panel rotating through the latest scorelines by league and a main panel with the talking heads, but its still not right.  The left panel lingers on each league not quite long enough for you to read it properly but when it gets to the end it advertises upcoming live games and displays that for far too long.

In fact you get tired of waiting, then it goes to a second page of upcoming games, and you look away but look back to find that it has already whipped through to League two. Frustrating. I gave up and went to the Paralympic coverage on BBC2 instead. Let’s just say that it is unlikely anybody will bother to invent a Setanta Sports drinking game like they have for Jeff Stelling’s programme.

Next week I shall go back to streaming Sky through the Internet.
