It really has all been going on up here on Tolgate Hill. First of all that big fire on Sunday, and then yesterday there was an obstruction in the road as I came home from work. Right opposite where the fire was there was a tow truck blocking half of the road. It was reversed back onto the pavement and sticking right out into the road because it was trying to retrieve a car that had gone off the road, into the woods and right down the bank into the stream there.
We reckon it was somebody coming off the roundabout at the top of the hill far too fast and then losing control as they came to the bend. Apparently it has happened before, and I can believe that – in the battle between tyres’ grip and centrifugal force the tyres often come second-best. Although there is a 30mph limit you can reach some extremely high speeds on Tollgate Hill. ((not in my little 1-litre thing of course)) Especially on a Sunday. A top tip for anybody who can’t afford to go to the Motorcycle Grand Prix: go to the A264 bypass on a Sunday where you will experience the same sort of noise. Or just sit in our back garden.
