I’m looking forward to Friday’s Later With Jools Holland, having just caught up with Tuesday’s show on the V+ box.   The Doves, Madeleine Peyroux and Marianne Faithfull I can take or leave, but I was well impressed with the Noisettes and Rokia Traore.

The Noisettes reminded me of CSS quite a bit, have surely the hairiest drummer since Sib Hashiam played with Boston, and played one of those songs that is instantly catchy – nearly as catchy as the one Rokia Traore did.  And what about her drummer?  Did he really play one-handed  for the whole song?

Apart from the prospect of more Noisettes and Rokia Traore, Friday’s show is going to have Grandmaster Flash and Joe Bonamassa on it, which should be a treat.  I have heard quite a bit of JB on Planet Rock and Spotify and it all sounds good.  Is it really nearly thirty years since Grandmaster Flash first hit the charts with his wheels of steel?    It is a bit of a shock to realise just how old ‘old school’ is.
