What Youtube was invented for

The other night I was reading about a Crisis ‘hidden gig’ where Amadou & Mariam played at the Union Chapel, Islington with David Gilmour.   I hate reading about this sort of thing – it is a one-off event, that was not televised or recorded and so entirely ephemeral so I normally just get overcome with jealousy for the person writing about it.  It was the same with reports about that 5-hour all-star world music show at Glastonbury. And then I remembered… every other person there will have had a video camera of some sort, and half of them would post the results on Youtube!

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

Unfortunately I can’t find a clip with decent sound quality, and I can’t find a clip of them doing C’est n’est pas bon – yet – but it is still great to know that there is now no need to miss any of these special one-off happenings.  It is like when two-thirds of Rush came on to play with the Foo Fighters in Canada: you only have to read that something interesting happened and it is more than likely you can find a poor cameraphone recording of it online.
