Still on a Spizzenergi theme. I found this on Youtube: it is the cover of Where’s Captain Kirk? that REM produced as a xmas single for their fan club in (I think) 1992. The arrangement is based on the version performed in the film Urgh! A music War.  As far as I know, this cover was done with permission, but REM forgot to pay…
Sort of sums up Spizz’s luck over the years: on the one had he gets one of his songs covered by one of the biggest bands on the planet at the time, but on the other hand it was only on a given-away-free single. Had they shoved it on the B-side of Losing My Religion or something like that Spizz would probably be living in the South of France now instead of South London.

REM butchered a Robyn Hitchcock’s songs, Arms of Love, and put it on the b-side (if such an expression can be used with a CD) of Man on the Moon. I am sure it gave Robyn a nice bonus but sadly no life in Cannes!
