I am not a big fan of hot weather as such. Unlike some people that I have known I do believe that it can be too hot: we have all known somebody who would return from holdays and insist that their holiday was better because it was 45 degrees while yours was ‘only’ 30 degrees – before their skin all drops off.
It is a long time since I have been anywhere sunny in summer. In the last ten years we have only been abroad in April/May time, but I can remember what it is like and I tend to spend most of my time in the shade anyway, but I like the fact that there is sun to hide from. I like to not have to worry about packing jumpers and raincoats ‘just in case’.
Just checked the weather forecast for next week and 28 degrees/sunny all week sounds good enough for me.
I have firtled and scrimmaged around and found my bag of Euro coins, map of Crete, passports and NHS cards. I have emptied the memory card in the camera and re-charged the battery, packed the charger for the mp3 player and the European socket adapter. Have not packed the mobile phone adapter – I think I will be leaving the mobile at home.
Excitement levels currently very high.

You are risking the amusement of Greek officials on clocking your surname? A braver man than me…. Especially since they will be sniggering at Jayne as well…..

Hope you have taken out good travel insurance. Whilst Greece is in the EU and EHIC applies, the state system is not great and the EHIC only covers emergency provision. It does not cover repatriation etc
