Nikon’s new camera, the D3S (to come out next month) is reported to be capable of an ISO of 102,400.
I don’t know a lot about the technicalities of cameras, but that sounds a little excessive to me. My camera does about 1600 ISO.
Not sure what you would do with that, and at $5200 I am unlikely to find out for myself. I suspect the real benefit will not be when shooting at such settings, but the reduced graininess when usnig more sensible settings. A bit like having a really powerful amp, not so you can turn it all the way up but to get better sound quality at normal levels.
